Governor Samuel Ortom has expressed gratitude to patriotic Nigerians who have stood firm in support of the peace, security and development of Benue state.

The Benue State Governor gave the expression Monday during the burial of Lady Roseline Cheme, the wife of the Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, Demian Cheme at Kperyisa Village, Sengev in Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.

“I want to especially thank Nigerians who are outspoken on issues that concern the security of life and other sensitive matters that, touch the people negatively,” he stated.

Governor Ortom noted that though, armed Fulani herdsmen at the moment resort to guerrilla attacks as the new pattern of attacking the people of the state, he appealed to people of state to remain peaceful, as well as cooperate with the security agencies to win the battle.

He called on the people of Gwer West to provide total support to the security agencies to fight crime, especially from attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen.

Governor Ortom advised youths to step up efforts in developing themselves rather than indulging in issues that can derail their precious lives while he assured them of his administration’s readiness to train them in areas that can make their lives worthwhile.

He called on all communities in the state to shun the construction of thatch houses and rather use the little they have for the construction of zinc houses which are more durable and comfortable.

He consoled the family of the deceased to take solace in the fact that their wife and mother lived a worthy life.

In his funeral oration, the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Titus Uba said death brings all before God, while he called on people to draw closer to God for salvation.

On his part, Ter Tyoshin, Chief Daniel Abomtse lamented the frequent demise of his subjects, stating that, from January 2021 to date, the community lost over 18 prominent people and appealed to all to pray to  God, to have mercy on his people.

In a funeral homily, the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Bauchi, Most Reverend Hilary Naman Dachalen said, the deceased died in Christ Jesus and He will raise her to eternity on the last day while he prayed for God to keep the people the deceased has left behind.

Delivering a vote of thanks, the husband of the deceased and Majority Leader, Benue State House of Assembly, Demian Cheme, said he is saddened by the sudden demise of his wife. He however, said he is consoled by the fact that, she is in the bosom of the Lord.

He thanked all who contributed in one way or the other for the burial of his wife and prayed God bless all.
