Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue Statw has expressed shock and deep sadness over the demise of the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Victoria Asher in the early hours of Saturday.
The governor who spoke through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase said, “the demise of Comrade Asher is a painful loss, not only to the media community but also to the entire state.”
He described the late NUJ Chairman as a hardworking woman who related well with others and stood for excellence in the pen profession.
Governor Ortom stated that the Government and people of Benue will miss Comrade Asher and her contributions to the state, in her chosen profession of journalism.
He prayed God to grant her eternal rest and give her husband with the entire family as well as colleagues, particularly the Benue State Council of NUJ, the strength to bear the loss.
In another development, the Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condoled with her Benue counterpart over the death of their Chairman, Comrade Victoria Asher.
A statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Secretary of the Council, Mr Sunday John, said the news of the death of the Benue Council’s chairman came to them as a rude shock.
“The Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) sympathises with the Benue State Council over the sudden demise of their Chairman, Comrade Victoria Asher.
“The news of the death of Comrade Victoria Asher came as a rude shock to Nasarawa State Council of NUJ.
“On behalf of the entire journalists in the state, the council pray God to forgive her shortcomings, grant her soul eternal rest and give the family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement said.
