Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said that he will sign the amended Benue State Volunteer Guard Law, 2021 on Tuesday, October 26. He noted that when signed, it will enable the Volunteer Guards to function effectively.
Governor Ortom who spoke Sunday during the Solemnization of Holy Matrimony between Miss Sandra Nguavese Orban & Mr Desmond Mhembena Anza at NKST Church, Jato-Aka called on the people of the state to be united, in order to secure the state against invaders.
“Members of the Community Volunteer Guards will be recruited with the help of traditional rulers and other stakeholders. They will complement the efforts of conventional security agencies and must be people of impeccable character.
“As long as I remain the Governor, I am committed to my people. Anybody who think I will keep quiet in the face of constant attack on my people with over 1.5 million displaced, such one should know that I will never do that,” he maintained.
He called on the Federal Government to demonstrate the same capacities they have demonstrated in the cases involving Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho in the current insecurity ravaging the entire country.
The governor, while congratulating the couple on their wedding expressed optimism that they will create time to always reflect on the sermon by Rev J .I Tyonongu, stating that by doing that, their union will be successful.
He advised them to always do things together. The governor urged the bride to be submissive to her husband even as he called on the groom to provide for his wife.
Earlier in a sermon, Reverend J. I Tyonongu who read from Ephesians 5:21-25 admonished the couple to be submissive to one another in reverence to Christ. “There are a lot of problems in the society today but if you heed this instruction, you will triumph,” he stated.
