Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule, has ordered the immediate evacuation of persons whose houses were submerged by the recent flood in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state to safer places.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Ibrahim Addra on Sunday, said the governor also directed that food items, mattresses and other relief materials should be given to the victims of flood with immediate effect.
According to the statement, the governor visited the place and sympathised with the leaders and people of the area.
Governor Sule thanked the Emir of Nasarawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin and the Chairman of the local council for their prompt actions in assessing the situation.
He, charged the people to desist from building houses on waterways as well as avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels.
The statement further stated that government would take a second look at the channelisation project while hoping to seek the collaboration of the Federal Government in tackling the age-long ecological problems in the area.
It concluded that the flood incident was occurring for the second time in Nasarawa town in less than two weeks.
