A Point of Sale (POS) operator in Dengi, Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State has been reportedly shot dead by suspect armed robbers.
Eyewitness gave the name of the victim as Muhammad Haruna, who was allegedly shot dead by yet-to-be identified gunmen at his business place at about 8:30pm Monday.
Customers who were at the POS centre ran for safety, even as others were injured while trying to escape.
Our source said the rubbers pretended to be customers who intended to cash some money from the POS centre but rather opened gunfire on the operator and killed him on the spot; carting away cash amounting to N2.5 million.
Confirming the incident, Media Officer of Operation Safe Heave (OPSH) security operatives in charge of Jos crisis, Major Ibrahim Shittu, said the personnel of the operation in the area were on patrols with the aim of arresting the suspects.
He said, “there was a robbery attack on a POS centre at about 8:30 pm,
four armed robbers on bikes with AK 47 rifles carted away with N2.5 million naira and shot dead the owner of the POS shop.”
He added that, “our troop in conjunction with other security agencies pursued the robbers who escaped and later dominated the area with patrols.
“One of the robbers was later arrested and handed over to the police.” Maj. Umar revealed.
Meanwhile, two male adults were also reportedly shot dead by gunmen, along Rim, in Riyom Local Government Area of northern Plateau State.
Village Head of the area, Da Gyang Dahoro, made the revelation at the Divisional Police Office (DPO) in Riyom LGA.
According to sources, the deceased were returning from a church programme on a motor bike and were shot dead by unknown gunmen.
Corpses of the Rim incident deceased’s have been deposited at the Jos University Teaching hospital (JUTH), while investigations into their death is on, by the police.
