Five persons were Thursday night shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen at Vom, Vwang district of Jos south local government area in Plateau state.
Plateau state Police Commissioner, Edward Egbuka, confirmed the incident to news men when he visited scene of the incident on Friday.
Mr. Edward described the act as a set back to peace effort in the state.
“Last night, some yet to be identify gunmen attacked a drinking joint in Vom community and shot five persons dead, we are here and the situation is under control.”
The police chief lamented that “this is a setback to the peaceful coexistence of all stakeholders, the Police Military and state government have been trying to manage.” Mr Edward said.
It was learnt that the armed stormed the community at about 10:30pm Thursday night shooting sporadically, killed five persons, injured another.
It was learned that four persons died on the spot, while another who was taking to the hospital was later confirmed dead.
One of the victim is said to be a student of School of Animal Health Production Vom.
The District Head of Vwang, Da Gyang Balak, in a reaction condemned the killings and described it as “barbaric”
The member Plateau state house of assembly, representing Jos South in the Plateau State Hon Dalyop Fom, described the incident as “sad and ugly” he call on the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the deadly act.

The lawmaker however sue for peace, call on the community to be calm and be law abiding to constituted authorities.
