Herdsmen attack Benue community, kill 13

Over 13 persons were reportedly killed and several others wounded by suspected herdsmen in Tse Amgbem, close to Aondoana in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack which occurred in the early hours of Monday saw many killed as other residents of the  community fled for while their houses were set ablaze by the suspected herdsmen.

The Voice gathered that, several other persons were either injured or missing, including children and women while others are currently receiving treatment at undisclosed hospitals in Naka the Gwer West Local Government Area headquarters.

As at the time of filing this report, hundreds of residents have been displaced with a good number of them taking refuge in Naka.

The Chairperson of the local government council, Mrs Grace Igbabon, confirmed the incident. She said some of the corpses have been deposited in the morgue.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene also confirmed the attack but stated that details are still sketchy.

It will be recalled that, in recent times, Benue state has come under heavy attacks by suspected herdsmen killing seven persons at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at Abagena at the outskirt of Makurdi, the Benue State capital prompting Governor Samuel Ortom to call on the Federal Government to take proactive measures to stop and forestall any re-occurrence and end insecurity in the country.
