From Esther Akaa, Lafia
The governorship candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Sambo has distanced himself from a viral video clip purporting that he has stepped down for the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), David Umbugadu.
Sambo, who debunked the purported video at a press briefing held at Abacha Youth Centre in Lafia, said he remains the acceptable candidate of NRM in the state.
According to him, two major political parties had earlier approached him to jettison his candidature and declare support for them in the March 18th governorship and House of Assembly elections but he declined their offers.
“The news is not only fake but also unfounded and malicious being spread by politicians who are desperate to achieve their political goals through whatever means possible.
“I wish to also state that I have been approached by various leading political parties in the state on the possibility of withdrawing from the race and to support their respective candidates in the forthcoming 2023 Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.
“At this point I am yet to make a final decision on the matter and will be happy to make it known to the people of the state at the appropriate time,” he said.
He, therefore, thanked his supporters, officials of the party both at the ward and national levels for their unflinching support and promised to work for the progress of the party in the state.
