First Lady of Benue State Dr Eunice Ortom has enjoined leaders at all levels both secular and religious to lend support to the inclusion of women and girls in peace building.
Dr Ortom stated this today in a good will message presented at the inauguration of Mercy Corps in Abuja to mark this year’s International Day of Peace.
She encouraged all well meaning Nigerian to enlist on the platform in support of its objectives adding that it is a noble cause.
She continued that making women integral part of the peace building process and reconciliation will encourage togetherness and peaceful coexistence in communities.
She expressed regrets that women and girls suffer untold consequences during crisis and conflicts however, they are often relegated to the background during resolutions and reconciliation.
The wife of the Governor advocated change of the status quo describing the situation as unfair.
She appealed to Nigerians particularly, people of Benue state to embrace each other and chart ways of ensuring enduring peace at all times.
A statement by her press coordinator Shimataver Aondoakaa says the first lady also felicitated with people of the Benue on the commemoration of International Day of Peace
