Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule has called for Synergy between the three arms of government inorder to move the state in the path of peace and economic prosperity.
Governor Sule made this call on Tuesday at a one- day Summit organised for arms of government in commemoration of Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary and celebration of Nasarawa at 24 , held at Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall, Government House, Lafia.
The governor revealed that the summit was aimed at assessing the performances of the three arms of government as it border on security and economic development of the state.
“This summit is aimed at broadening our understanding and appreciation of the roles of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary.
“It is also aimed at deepening our democratic process for socio – economic development through fertilisation of ideas and experience sharing and appraisal of our respective role with a view of creating a conflict free society,” Governor Sule said.
He, therefore called on the legislative and Judicial arms of government to work with his administration in order to provide the dividends of democracy to the of people of the state.
In a keynote address, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs ,Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad 1, (Rtd )who spoke on the theme: Examining the role of the Arms of Goverment on the Security and Economy of Nasarawa State, stressed the need for stakeholders to work together to achieve adequate security and economic growth in the state.
“Nasarawa was created 24 years ago on October 1 , 1996 by General Sani Abacha . It was carved out of Plateau State . It’s strategic location speaks volumes of our state potentials , but also of the volatility of the state’s security , which requires adequate planning and the commitment of all to take our dear state to enviable heights.
“Agriculture has always being the mainstay of our economy but that does not preclude other potentials , which most of us must have identified in tourism , sports industry and the host of others.
“Every stakeholder of our state has a role to play in ensuring we harness these potentials suffice to state that attaining a reasonable degree of security in our state is pivotal to maximising the potentials of Nasarawa State.
“Therefore, the growth and development of our economy is everyone’s role to play,” the Emir said.
On his part, the Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi said the state Assembly has enacted laws such as the Anti- Kidnapping bill , prohibition of secret cult and other related activities bill as well as Gender Based Violence ( GBV) Prohibition Law among others as part of its effort towards addressing Insecurity in the state.
“Nasarawa State of Assembly has been able to pass into law the following ; kidnapping prohibition law , Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Law, , Nasarawa State Vigilante Law . These are deliberate action to ensure that these legislative instructions are put in place for the management of insecurity in the state.
The Speaker, however explained that the oversight functions of the legislative arm of government was not meant to witch-hunt anybody but to develop constitutional responsibility to ensure good governance .
He, therefore passed a vote of confidence on Governor Sule for his excellent performances within the last one year, saying the governor has provided dividends of democracy to the people of the state within the shortest period of time.
