The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Nasarawa State Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Abdullahi Sule, as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

Sule polled 347,209 votes to defeat his close rival, Dr David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) who scored 283,016 votes, while Candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Abdullahi Maidoya came third with 11,726 votes and that of Social Democratic Party, (SDP) Mohammed Alfa Nyas got 9003 votes.

Returning Officer of the governorship election in the state, Prof Tanko Ishaya declared the governor winner of the election on Monday morning in Lafia.

He said: “Having certified the requirements set by the law and the procedures  that were followed by scoring the majority votes, we now have Sule Abdullahi Alhaji with party APC who received that total number of votes 347, 209  and having certified the law is hereby declared the winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State.”

He said the total number of registered voters were 1,899,244, while the number of accredited voters were 668,978.

The Voice reports that the governor’s election is for a second term.
