Five foreign peace advocate agencies who are mediating on civil unrest in Nigeria said they are working on the persistent civil unrest in Plateau with a view to ending killings of citizens.
Mr Gad Peter, Executive Director, CLEEN Foundation Abuja, made the revelation in an interview with journalists in Jos, last Friday after completing a three-day multi-stakeholders’ meeting held in the state.
According to CLEEN Executive Director, various peace advocates are proffering solutions to the incessant crises in the state, particularly in Mangu, Bokkos, Barkinladi and Bassa local government areas of the state, where killings have intensified over time.
Mr Gad expressed worry over the crises in the affected local government areas and wondered why they have remained unabated despite various interventions, and therefore called for collaboration.
He advised the Plateau State government to partner with various agencies, civil societies and others who are working towards mitigating in the unrest to bringing an end to the killings in order to pave the way for development to thrive.
The three-day multi-stakeholders’ engagement on conflict resolution in Plateau State was aimed at strengthening rapid and transformative early warning response.
It had engaged security operatives, traditional rulers, religious leaders National Orientation Agency and leadership of the Civil Society Organisations.
The participating foreign peace agencies at the multi-stakeholders’ engagement included: CLEEN Foundation, Community Initiative to Promote Peace, CIPP, Mercy Corps Tear-Funds and USAID.
