Insecurity: Karu council boss imposes curfew

From Esther Akaa, Lafia

The Chairman of Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa state, James Thomas has imposed curfew between 10pm to 6am in the area, in order to checkmate emerging security threats there.

A statement issued on Monday  and signed by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Chairman on Media and Publicity, Mr Danbaba Magaji said the imposition of the curfew will take effect on Thursday, August 11, 2022 till further notice.

The statement noted that the chairman approved the curfew resolution after an expanded peace and security meeting held with security agents in the LGA.

“It has become imperative for us to take a holistic approach to curb or checkmate the security threat in our area, even though we are enjoying relative peace in Karu LGA.

“But we must work tirelessly and take all security measures to ensure we live in peace, considering our proximity to Abuja and criminals are using that as an option to take advantage.

“As such, we will take this as precautionary measures, from Thursday, August 11 August, 2022 till further notice and we will enforce a curfew from 10pm to 6am,” the statement said.

The statement concluded that when in effect, the curfew will restrict all movement of vehicles, close all cinemas, bars and joints, among other social activities in the area.
