The Benue State Commissioner of Youth, Sports and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, has charged members of the Governor Cup Committee, to interface with all the relevant stakeholders, to ensure realization of the football fiesta.
Ikyange, who gave the charge while performing the inauguration of the committee, saddled with the responsibility of organizing the Benue State Governor Cup competition in Makurdi, said this was part of the modalities to fulfill Governor Hyacinth Alia’s promise of restoring the Governor Cup competition in state, to get the youths gainfully engaged through sports and other creative activities.
He explained that members who formed the committee were selected based on their involvement and relevance to the competition, stressing that, “all the Local Government Areas in the state, will feature in the football event as participants”.
Responding on behalf of members of the committee, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dennis Akura said the members of the committee were aware of the importance of the competition in discovering talents for future national and international competitions and would work towards achieving the goal. He added that, “all the chairmen of the 23 local government councils are fully in support of the football competition”.
On his part, the Chairman of the Benue State Football Association BSFA, Paul Edeh assured the commissioner and members of the committee that the BSFA was ready with all its organs, to collaborate with them for the success of the tournament.
Members of the committee included, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Creativity, John Akume, the Chairman of the Benue State chapter of the ALGON, the Director of Sports BSSC, Philip Nongu as well as the Director, Sports Development of the ministry, Terzungwe Chugh.
