Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, for Wase Federal Constituency from Plateau state, Ahmed Idris Maje has said the intended plan by the Federal Government towards closing illegal mining sites, allegedly using the proceeds in funding bandits was a welcome development.
Maje, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated recently at his residence in Jos, while reacting to rising insecurity in his constituency, where some persons where reportedly killed.
It would be recalled that Wase Local Government Area last week came under series of attacks where many people lost their lives.
The federal lawmaker reminded government that the primary responsibility of every government is to protect lives and property.
He revealed that “mining is one aspect that has increased insecurity in our axis because wherever you find mining, you find criminality.”
“That is because a lot of drugs and other vices are carried out wherever there is mining.
“You will recall that sometimes ago, I moved a motion on the floor of the House calling the attention of the then government on the activities of the miners.
“I have been vindicated by the decision of the Federal Government to close illegal mining sites in the country.
“Zamfara is one good case, you would love to see what has happened and and what is still happening,” he stated.
Maje said that by the grace of God, government was doing its best to address the security challenges bedeviling his constituency and other parts of the country.
