Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engr Benson Abounu, has sympathized with victims of the recent attack at Abagena IDP camp in Makurdi with a call on security agencies to live up to their responsibilities in securing lives and properties.

Abounu who paid a visit to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi where the victims of the Abagena IDP camp attack are hospitalized, described the attack as heinous and called on security agencies to live up to their responsibilities in securing lives and properties.

While on a tour to assess the level of injuries incurred by the victims, the deputy governor expressed sadness over the attack on innocent persons, who he said had been displaced from their ancestral homes and are taking refuge at the camp only to be attacked. He called on the federal government to improve security in the country

“This cannot be tolerated any longer the law enforcement must beef up security and live up to their responsibilities we cannot tolerate this any longer,” he maintained.

Speaking further, Engr Abounu urged the invaders to sheath their sword and embrace dialogue, stating that there is no issue that cannot be resolved through dialogue. He also called for swift action by the federal government in order to put an end to insecurity in the country.

Seven internally displaced persons were butchered to death while nine are at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi receiving treatment, for various degrees of machete cuts and gunshot wounds, among them are two children, one was shot on the buttocks and the other on the hand and leg.
