A contender for the Benue State House of Assembly seat for Makurdi South in 2023, Samuel Ushaakaa Tughtugh said he is determined to ensure that justice and fairness is upheld in the distribution of power among federating blocs in the constituency.
Tughtugh stated this in an exclusive chat with The Voice Politics in Makurdi.
The House of Assembly seat candidate of Labour Party (LP), said his desire is to ensure that every bloc in Makurdi South is accorded its fair share in governance.
He said going by the rotational practice which the constituency adopts in determining who occupies a particular position in political leadership, the Ipusu bloc, who are the legitimate group for the seat in 2023 were unanimous about his candidature.
According to him, based on the political power sharing arrangements in the area, the Ityoshin bloc enjoyed their turn for 8 years and handed over to Ipusu, who are also expected to serve for another 8 years and then pass the baton to Ugondo.
“My zeal to come out is that the people of Makurdi South did not treat the Ipusu community very well and we have a very large number and democracy is a game of number.
“So, my desire is to defend the destiny of all indigenes of Makurdi South. Once you are born and bred up here, you are supposed to enjoy all rights and privileges of a citizen.
“They should therefore, allow the Ipusu to complete their turn and return the mandate to the people of Ugondo as it has been the norm and practice,” he stated.
He said it would have been a different ball game if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had returned Terwase Aondokaa but having denied him re-election, it was obvious, as the only Ipusu son and very competent he would be elected overwhelmingly by the five blocs that constitute the constituency.
“If I am given the mandate I will not be thinking of what to do because I know all the problems and challenges of the area so I will hit the ground running.
“My mission statement is redemption, we must bring back what has been taken from us forcefully and I believe the people are comfortable and are working for me.
“This is not physical fight but a moral burden that will affect the future of any bloc in the constituency.
“The PDP and APC have failed. Everybody, including myself we are tired of them. Labour Party is now the option that people are looking up to with hope of defence. We are the third force and we are believing that if we come to power we shall defend our people.
“The party is an opportunity for the youths. If you try one thing and it failed, tried the second one too failed, try the third one, it may not fail you. So let us try LP believing that our presidential candidate and governorship candidate in Benue State are young men with proven records of performance and integrity.
“Vote for LP, it is an alternative to Nigerians, he said.
