The Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Makurdi branch Barr Justin Gbagir has indicated that his lawyers will be filing law suits against Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the nearest future.
Gbagir was allegedly “brutally assaulted by the operatives of the EFCC in their Makurdi Office” on June 8, 2021.
He said there is no positive result from interface with the EFCC over the subject.
The anti-graft agency, according to Gbagir, had in response to a pre-action notice said the Makurdi lawyer had misrepresented facts and it “shall however, for now reserve the correct and accurate articulation and presentation of the facts of what transpired till the appropriate time, that is when we meet in court as threatened in your said letter.”
Gbagir, who was admitted in hospital following encounter with the operatives said he “attended check up at the hospital where I had surgery on the 20 and 21 October, 2021.
“I was given eye drops to use for 3 months and to go back for check up in April, 2022. New eye glasses were also recommended for me. I can see clearly with the eye except that tears occasionally form in the eye, especially when I over stress it,” he said.
The Makurdi NBA chair, who is also the founder of Justice and Rights Initiative, taking to his Facebook page in a post titled: Update on assault on my by EFCC on the 8/6/21, said in part: “I have collected all the Medical Reports from the hospitals I attended and other documents necessary for filing the suits.
