Tragedy occurred Monday, 7 December, 2020 at the residence of  Comrade Abba Yaro, the Benue State All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman at the Judges Quarters area of Makurdi, when a 30-year-old man, Gabriel (surname unknown) was electrocuted by high tension wire while trimming branches of a tree in the premises.

Investigation by The Voice revealed that, Mrs Abba Yaro, had earlier asked the deceased who was a security guard in the house, to climb and trim the tree, when unknown to him the cutlass mistakenly came into contact with the high tension wire and was immediately electrocuted.

The youths of the area who were infuriated by the incident, broke into the premises of the APC chairman, and demanded for explanation from his wife.

As at the time of filing this report, 6 hoodlums who wanted to take advantage of the situation and cause trouble have been arrested, while the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Mohammed Mukaddas has already visited the scene of the incident and also confirmed the arrest of the 6 hoodlums by the police for interrogation.

Officials of the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) PLC and fire service who were invited to the scene, disconnected power supply from the transformer located at the premises, before the body of the deceased was removed.

However, normalcy has returned to area as a result of the quick intervention by the police.
