Parish Priest, St Paul’s Quasi Parish, Ahule, Very Revd Fr James Utav, has been appointed as the Principal Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School, Makurdi.
In a letter signed by the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, it said the appointment of Upav, who is also a product of the school takes effect from Monday, September 12, 2022, and will last for a duration of six years.
The letter read in part; “after due consultations and deliberations on the pastoral needs of the Diocese and of the Universal Church, we have decided to appoint you as the Principal of Mt. St. Gabriel’s Secondary School, Makurdi where you served so well as the School Manager, with effect from Monday, 12the September, 2022.
“It is expected that you will represent and coordinate all activities of the Diocese in this area as you work closely with the Diocesan Directorate of Education and other relevant Ministries and Parastatals in the state for the growth and development of our school.
“As Principal, you will be directly in charge of the administration of our secondary school and the welfare and discipline of her Staff and Students. And as one, who is the fruit of this great institution, do well to treat her as your alma mater by carefully reviving the structural and academic standard which is gradually dwindling with time.
“You will function in this capacity for six years or until the need arises for a decision otherwise.”
Recall that Mt St Gabriel’s Secondary School was last year rocked with a crisis that saw the removal of then principal, Revd Fr John Asen.
He was replaced by Very Revd Fr Pax Finbarr Jey-Sharwan, VC, who was also removed during the long vacation for undisclosed reasons and now replaced by Fr Utav.
