National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has frowned at unlawful intimidation, harassment, arrest and torture of students by security agencies in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the association, Benue State axis, Comrade Maxwell Faasema made this known when he paid a courtesy call to the Zonal Commander, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital.
“We frown at the manner Nigerian students are harassed and arrested by security agencies without proper investigation and genuine reasons,” he stated.
Comr. Faasema urged all security agencies to always carry out well rooted and proper investigation before embarking on any arrest, stressing that it will help them to avoid wrong arrest.
“We express our readiness to support all security agencies in fight against crimes and criminality, particularly EFCC to win the fight against economic and financial crimes for the betterment of Nigeria,” Comr. Faasema assured.
According to Comr. Faasema, the association was motivated to join the fray in ensuring that Nigeria is freed from the grip of corruption which has eaten deep into the fabric of the society.
In an address, the Zonal Commander, EFCC, Makurdi office, Mr Friday Ebelo said the visit by the student’s apex body in Nigeria gave the agency confidence to redouble its efforts in the fight against economic and financial crimes in Benue state and Nigeria in general.
Mr Ebelo expressed his sincere gratitude to the leadership of NANS, through its quality and focused commitment in leading and fighting for the cause of Nigerian students, as well as their betterment and well-being
He assured NANS that the commission will not relent on its part, until the state and Nigeria as a country is sanitized from all corrupt practices. He further solicited support of the association, as critical stakeholders in nation building to sustain its support for success of the commission.
