The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has appointed Abel Yakubu Bala (PDP), Nasarawa Eggon West constituency as the new Minority Leader of the House.
The appointment of Bala followed the vacancy created by the former Minority Leader, Danladi Jatau, member representing Kokona West who defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), which left the Deputy Minority Leader, Luka Zhekaba (PDP-Obi 2) the task of acting on his behalf on the floor of the House.
However, the deputy Minority Leader of the House, Zhekaba was on Monday suspended, following an alleged involvement in the fake employment of 38 secondary school teachers in the state.
The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who announced the appointment of the new minority leader during the House sitting held on Tuesday in Lafia, said it was with immediate effect.
“We have met and have agreed to appoint a new Minority Leader in the person of Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the former Minority Whip and this takes immediate effect.
“In the same vain, all other minority positions in the House stand dissolved,” the speaker said.
The minority positions dissolved include; Deputy Minority Leader, Minority Whip and Deputy Minority Whip respectively.
The House now has a total number of 20 APC members, three PDP members and one member from Zenith Labour Party.
