Nasarawa Assembly to pass N8.3b proposed adjustment bill into law

Nasarawa State House of Assembly says the proposed N8.3billion 2022 amended bill sent to the House by Governor, Abdullahi Sule would accelerate growth and development across the state.

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Abdullahi stated this after the House deliberated and adopted a report of the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation on Monday in Lafia.

The Voice reports that the report is on a bill for a law to authorise the issuance of the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State 2022 Amended Appropriation of N110, 849,945,879.49 for the services of Nasarawa State government to complement for a period commencing from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022.

The Speaker said that the House was ready to give the budget accelered passage to enable the government execute projects and programmes that will transform the state and impact on the citizens.

According to him, the 2022 amended appropriation was necessary to adjust and re-align some items in the budget that have not been used or utilized  owing to the inflow and outflow of incomes and expenditures.

“The House after due study examination, the sum of N8,367, 625,997.5k only would be approved as total adjustment  within the 2022 budget. I therefore, slate Tuesday, November 8, 2022 for the third reading of the bill,” he said.

The Speaker, who appreciated  the House Committee and other members for given adequate attention to the governor’s request, assured that the state House will continue to legislate on areas that will bring development to the state and enhance the well-being of the citizenry.

On his part, Chairman of the Committee, Aliyu Mohammed, while presenting the report appreciated the Speaker for his support to ensure that the adjusted budget report met the stipulated time frame.

He said: “The proposed adjusted budget for the year 2022 was transmitted to this House by His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule and was committed to this committee to work on the bill and report back to the House, that is why we are submitting the bill today.

“N8,367,625,997.5k only was the total sum adjusted within the 2022 budget as shown below: Recurrent Expenditure – the below amount were added to these sub-head.

“Personnel cos t- N717, 707,382.12 and other recurrent cost – N7,649,918,614.95 total N8, 367,625,996.24.

“Capital Expenditure – N8, 367,625,996.24 were deducted and transferred to the recurrent expenditure.

“Based on the above analysis, the total size of the recurrent expenditure after adjustment stands at N80,288,638,455.50. Whereas the total size of the capital expenditure will be N30, 561,316,423.87.”

The Majority Leader of the House, Tanko Tunga, moved a motion for the adoption of the report and was seconded by the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Mohammed Alkali.
