Nasarawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has elected Revd Dr Sunday Emmah, from TEKAN/ECWA Bloc as its Chairman for a period of five years.
Revd Dr Emmah emerged the Nasarawa State Chairman of CAN in an election, with a total scores of 95 votes out of 132 votes cast, emerging as the winner.
His co-contestant, Revd Dr Samson Jugga, of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), who scored 36 votes was announced the Deputy Chairman as enshrined in the CAN Constitution.
Other officials who were elected unopposed include; Revd Fr Alfred Azige of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria as the Secretary General, Pastor Femi Momo of the Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN)/Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) as Assistant Secretary, while Supervising Apostle Samson Osuo of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) was made Treasurer.
Delivering his acceptance speech, the newly elected state CAN chairman, Dr Emmah, promised that the new team under his watch will do its best to uphold the confidence reposed in them.
He further promised to run an all participatory form of leadership, irrespective of tribal and denominational differences during his tenure in office, saying that they were elected to render services to humanity.
He commended the state government for not interfering in the election and called on Christians in the state to give the new leadership the necessary support to enable them succeed.
The new chairman is from Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC).
