The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi has bagged “Speaker of the Year 2022” award for his all inclusive leadership style and good governance in the state.
The Voice reports that the award was presented to the speaker by the National Association of University Students (NAUS) on Monday in Lafia.
Abdullahi, while recieving the award assured Nigerian students of his support for the enhancement of quality education in the state and country at large.
According to him, the award would spur him to do more in making laws and passing resolutions, as well as providing purposeful leadership for the overall development of the state and the country at large.
The speaker said that the House was doing its best to ensure that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) withdraws from the ongoing strike embarked upon by the national body of the association and resumes academic activities.
“I am indeed very happy as this award will spur me to do more towards making good laws, passing good resolutions and providing purposeful leadership at all times.
“We are friends of Nigerian students and so, at our level, we are doing our best to ensure that ASUU of our state university suspends strike and resumes academic activities, therefore, we have engaged the state government, ASUU officials and management of NSUK to ensure that the strike is suspended.
“The ongoing ASUU nation wide strike has affected and still affecting the lives of our children, especially the students negatively.
“We sympathise with the students, what is happening nationally calls for all hands to be on deck to ensure that the strike comes to an end,” he said.
The speaker, while assuring of his continued support to students at all times, urged them to be hard working and study hard, as well as to avoid social vice to excel in life.
In his remark, the Majority Leader of the House, Umar Tanko Tunga, appreciated NAUS for finding the speaker worthy of the award and wished them well in their academic pursuits.
Earlier, NAUS Deputy National President, Comrade Abraham said that the association decided to award the speaker due to his quality leadership style.
He, described the speaker as a passionate leader that has contributed greatly towards the development of the state and the society at large.
“We are here to identify with you and to award you as the best Speaker of the Year, 2022 and we are proud of your all inclusive and quality leadership style,” he said.
