The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to desist from peddling falsehood against Governor Abdullahi Sule in an effort to mislead the people about developments in the state.
The APC chairman in the state, Alhaji Aliyu Bello, stated this during a news conference on Thursday in Lafia.
Bello claimed that the PDP has continued to misinterpret every comment made by governor Sule since the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling in the PDP’s favour, in an effort to deceive the people.
He said it had become necessary for his party to put things in their right perspectives in order to save the public from being mislead to believing their lies and falsehood.
Bello urged the opposition party to desist from such act for the peace and progress of the state.
He said :”It is no longer news that the peoples Democratic party (PDP) and its candidate were gifted a father Christmas judgement in a split decision by the Hon Justice Ezekiel Ajaiyi’s led panel which has remained the most controverted judgement in the history of Governorship Election petition Tribunals.
“Although, we have since moved on, taking solace in the fact that the Appeal Court shall review and reverse the judgment in favor of our party on the merit of facts and law.
“We read, unfortunately, in some quarters of the media where the PDP through its campaign spokesperson, Dr Mike Omeri lamenting over our legitimate decision to right the wrongs done to us at the law courts. According to Omeri in their hopelessness, ” are deeply worried and frustrated by the decision of Governor Sule to file an appeal at the time he deem fit and convenient.
“This is laughable, shameful and the most ridiculous statement coming from only those suffering from apprehension of pending defeat.
“Such statement has some underpinning motives of hypocrisy and obvious plans initially hatched to manipulate the process of appeal which has now been decimated. Since you claim your lawyers were eagle-eyed and were able to cross appeal within minutes, why then cry foul? Allow the courts to decide on the issues brought before it in fairness and justice for all,” he said.
The chairman said that the opposition PDP had introduced a dangerous political dialectics of threats and falsehood into the body polity.
He warned that such mindless conspiracies of plausible deniability if not checked had lethal tendencies of overheating the political atmosphere.
“Recently, some political spent forces of the PDP extraction, notably; Alh Waleed Jibrin, Senator Arch Jaafar Ibrahim Mohammed, Alh Yusuf Ayitogo and others, formed a Muslim arm of the party where at a press conference tried to take undue advantage of the straight talking disposition of His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A Sule who is not given to grandstanding on issues of fact especially as they relate to Good Governance, security and peace.
“In the history of political parties globally, it is only in Nasarawa State PDP that we have a Muslim elders forum, invariably, Christian elders forum.
“These supposed elder statesmen who have long squandered their political and social capital suddenly found their lost voices in the wake of the recent Tribunal Judgement which surreptitiously favoured the opposition political party, PDP.
“Ordinarily, where moral decorum should be a virtue, these same elders who are only left with a golden coin of silence where state matters are discussed, only reserved a right of dignified silence.
“Unfortunately however, they took the path of indecency as they now assumed the role of attack agents for the wrong reasons and for needless pontification on weightless issues which do not warrant any criticism and vilification on the person and office of the Governor who merely stated the obvious roles religion and ethnicity played before, during and after the 2023 general election and the spill over effects it had on the election petition Tribunal which produced a split judgement along religious reflection,” he said.
The state APC chairman questioned how anyone could defend an assembly of the PDP Muslim Elders Forum who went to the public to spread misinformation and incite hatred against Governor Sule, claiming that his party had remained silent even in the most provocative situations and had tolerated so much impolite behavior from the opposition PDP, whose aim is create chaos in the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, while the legal works continues at the court of Appeal, His Excellency Engr Abdullahi A Sule has refused to be distracted, he has been busy breaking fallow grounds for new investment opportunities for the common good of the people of the state.
“We are calling on the PDP if they truly care about the development of the state as they claimed, to join us (APC) dutifully and with all sense of patriotism come up with ideas that will help move the state forward instead of their regular unpalatable and Inciting commentaries capable of causing friction in the state,” he added.
He, therefore urged the PDP to thread with caution and allow peace to reign for the progress of the state.
The Voice reports that the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Lafia, recently sacked Governor Sule and declared David Ombugadu, the candidate of the opposition PDP as the duly elected governor.
