Nasarawa State Government has given the management of Nasarawa United Football Club a three-match ultimatum to win their next games or face the risk of being sanctioned.
The State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Hon Lucky Isaac Yargwa, gave the directive on behalf of the state government during an emergency meeting between the ministry and management of the club held on Monday in Lafia.
According to him, the State Government was worried about the position of the club at the ongoing abridged 2022/ 2023 Professional Football League season having invested so much in team.
“The Government and citizens of Nasarawa State are disheartened by the poor run of the miners in the ongoing abridged 2022/2023 Nigerian professional Football League season despite government huge commitment and support to enable the club attain its mandate.
“We have been following up with the activities of our darling club in the league this season and I must say that neither the governor nor state is happy with our position on the going by our result the pre-season.
“We believe that we have enough quality in the squad and technical know-how to finish in top three from our group but from our recent outing in the league where we have played, we need to sit up ,” he said.
He, therefore called on the management of team to sit up and win the next three matches for the benefit of the people of the state.
Responding, Chairman of the club, Barr. Isaac Danladi, apologised to the state government over the poor performance of the club at the ongoing league.
“I want to apologise to the Governor of the state, Engr Abdullahi Sule who is the number one financial sponsor of the club, the Ministry, all critical stakeholders and our teeming supporters for the poor performance of our club at the ongoing 2022/ 2023 abridged league season.
“The State Government has provided all logistics support and the club management adequately prepared for the league but unfortunately we started on the wrong foot.
“I want to assure the government and our teeming supporters of our club that all hands will be on deck to bring back our glory in the next three games given to us.
It will be recalled that since the commencement of the league, Nasarawa United FC has lost all it games both home and away a situation that has put the club at the bottom of the log.
