Nationwide blackout eminent as power sector joins NLC/ASUU protest

The nation is likely going to experience total blackout as the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has directed its members to fully participate in the two-days protest organized by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

In a statement signed on Monday, by NUEE General Secretary, Job Alaero, he said the solidarity protest was against the continued closure of the nation’s tertiary institutions.

The statement enjoined members to work closely with the leadership of State Executive Councils (SEC) of the congress in the various states, in order to have a successful outing.

The statement read: “In line with the NLC’s directive and our position which was made known at the Central Working Committee (CWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of Congress. All members of the Union are enjoined to massively mobilize and actively participate in the NLC/ASUU solidarity protest against the continued closure of the Nation’s Tertiary Institutions, schedule for 26/27 July, 2022.

“You are encouraged to work with the leadership of State Executive Councils (SEC) of the Congress in your various States with a view having a successful outing. Aluta Continual!”

Commenting on the issue, a source from the electricity company in Makurdi, who pleaded anonymity said it is true that a letter, regarding the rally has been circulated but it is however, not clear yet, if power may be on to minimize the activities of vandals.

He added that other non technical sections of the company will definitely be shutdown.
