The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has tasked the newly appointed Service Chiefs to come up with new strategies in contending the rising security challenges bedeviling the nation.

NAWOJ equally charged the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide necessary logistics, weaponry and equipment, as well as enhance the welfare of security personnel, in order to encourage them in the fight against insurgency, banditry, kidnappings and other related criminal activities confronting the country.

In a statement issued recently and signed by NAWOJ National President, Comrade Ladi Bala, the association noted that women were the most affected in crisis situation, stressing the need to urgently address the insecurity bedeviling the nation for development to thrive.

The statement commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the appointment of new set of Service Chiefs, while expressing hope that the development will bring total overhaul of the nation’s security architecture with a view to safe guarding the lives and property of Nigerians.

“Towards this end, NAWOJ tasks the new service chiefs to bear in mind the expectations of Nigerians, thus live above board in the discharge of their new assigned responsibilities.

“The new service chiefs need not be reminded that their appointments came on a heel of unacceptable spike in criminal activities, particularly insurgency, banditry and kidnappings across the country.

“NAWOJ looks forward in the coming weeks to a drastic reduction to the barest minimum, the general insecurity in the country through innovative and deployment of required actions to guarantee the safety of Nigerians and Nigeria,” the statement added.

The statement also lauded the contribution of the immediate past service chiefs who did their best to keep the country together and wished them success in their future endeavours.

It appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with and give necessary support to the new Service Chiefs as well as other security agencies in the war against insecurity in the country.
