NIA honours two Benue sons, others

The Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA) is to honour two Benue Sons,  Arc. Sonny Echono and Arc. Joe Kyaagba with awards of excellence for their contributions to humanity.

Arc. Echono who is the President of NIA and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, will be awarded for his outstanding leadership style while
Arc. Kyaagba is to be bestowed with  Fellow award of the institute  alongside 23 others.

Others to be awarded with Distinguished Service Award are the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawal, Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai and the Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Ishaku.

The President of NIA, Arc. Echono who announced this, said honorary fellow awards will also be bestowed on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Prof. Babagana Zulum of Borno State.

Others scheduled for the award of Distinguished Fellow award include; the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, Senator Hadi Sirika, Minister of Aviation and Sir Akinloye Oyegbola, President, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APSN).

The ceremony is slated to hold at the International Conference Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja on Wednesday by 6:00 pm.

Meanwhile, friends of Arc. Kyaagba who is one of the awardees have rejoiced with him on his investiture as fellow of NIA.

The group described the latest national recognition of Arc. Kyaagba as most deserving for his outstanding excellence in professional practice, spanning over 40 years of milestone innovations.

Kyaagba who is one of the  2023 Governorship aspirants in Benue State  is a doctoral candidate in Security and Strategic Studies, researching into counter-terrorism for safer communities in Nigeria, using the theory of crime prevention through environmental design.

He has represented the NIA internationally on the council of the Commonwealth Association of Architects, as the Chairman of Education with the responsibility for the quality assurance of the schools of architecture in the Commonwealth of Nation States.

The guber aspirant is a two time member of the executive council of the NIA, and has served the NIA as a member of the  Education Board, Examiner for the NIA professional practice exam.

Kyaagba is also a resource person for the accreditation and validation of schools of architecture in Nigeria among several other responsibilities. He has mentored several younger architects, some of who are currently practicing abroad.

Some of the projects handled by Arc. Kyaagba include: Benue State Governor’s Lodge Abuja, ICPC Anti-Corruption Training Institute, Keffi, Benue State Governor’s Complex, Makurdi, Makurdi Sheraton Hotel, defunct Lobi Bank Headquarters, Makurdi, Benue Cement Company Plc. Head Office Complex, and several residential projects among others.
