Niger Assembly faults projects loan received by LGs

Niger State House of Assembly has discovered loopholes in the process of contract financing loan received by the 25 local government councils for the execution of some projects in their respective areas.

The Chairman, ad-hoc committee, investigating the contract financing loan approved by the House to all the councils, AbdulMalik Madaki disclosed this Friday at the Assembly complex, Minna.

Madaki, representing Bosso Constituency lamented that despite the disbursements of funds to all the local government councils, most projects are yet to be executed or completed.

He said the ad-hoc committee observed in its findings that almost all the local government councils screened lack financial commitment and proper financial record keeping, regarding contract financing loan and process surrounding its documentation.

He also stressed that the ad-hoc committee is not out to witch hunt anybody but to checkmate, address and come up with legislation that will ensure good governance in the state.

The committee also discovered that some of the councils directors, who appeared before the committee lacked knowledge of the contents of the contract financing loan they signed, apportioning responsibility to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

About 17 local government councils have so far appeared before the ad-hoc committee.
