Niger Assembly impeaches 3 principal officers

Niger State House of Assembly has impeached the House Majority Leader, Sale Ibrahim representing Kontagora 2, Deputy Majority Leader, Binta Mamman representing Guarara Constituency and the Chief Whip, Idris Musa Vatsa representing Lapai constituency.

The impeachment came under matter of urgent public importance moved by Member representing Edati Constituency, Salihu Mohammed Tama and was adopted through a unanimous voice vote on Thursday.

Member representing Borgu Constituency, Mohammed Abba Bala was nominated as the new Majority Leader, AbdulMalik Madaki of Bosso Constituency, Deputy Majority Leader, while mover of the motion, Tama was nominated as the Chief Whip of the House by legislator representing Gbako Constituency, Hussaini Yabagi Akote and seconded by Musa Suleiman Nasko from Magama Constituency.

Speaking shortly after plenary, Mammam, who represents Guarara Constituency said the impeachment came as a surprise, stating that the impeachment is said to be due to poor performance by the principal leaders.

“The motion was a kind of kangaroo because the mover stood to say he has urgent matter of public importance concerning his constituency on flooding, unfortunately when granted to speak by the speaker he brought up impeachment anyway things like this are bound to happen,” he stated.
