Niger State House of Assembly has urged the executive arm of government to as a matter of urgency provide fire service station in Paiko Local Government Area of the state.
This was brought to plenary under a matter of urgent public importance by the member representing Paikoro Constituency, Hon. Umar Nasir on Tuesday.
Hon. Nasir stated that on the 26th of November 2023 there was an inferno in Paiko town which razed down a residential quarters housing several families and some shops worth millions of naira destroyed.
According to the him, “Fire Service was called in but due to the deplorable state of the road from Chanchaga, they could not get to Paiko on time and unfortunately the raging fire completely engulfed several shops and residential house, “he said.
The legislator, however called on Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to rehabilitate the road to reduce the hardship being experienced by commuters plying the route.
Contributing, Speaker of the House, Barr Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji and his Deputy, Hon. Eunice Afiniki Dauda said fire service stations should be established in the local government areas that lack this service to avoid damage of lives and property in case of a fire outbreak.
Similarly, the State House of Assembly confirmed six nominees out of seven as members of the Niger State Assembly Service Commission following the presentation of a report of the House Standing Committee on House Service on the screening and confirmation of the nominees for appointment as chairman and members.
Those confirmed included: Hon. Mohammed Saba Kutiriko – Chairman, Alh. Nasiru Ya’u Kontagora – member, Mrs Monica Peter – member, George Shaba – member, Hon. Abdullahi Dzwafu -member and Hon. Umar Mohammed Rofia -member.
The Voice reports that the House commenced debate on the second reading on a bill for a law to establish a housing scheme for Niger State judiciary officers and other issues connected therewith but was however referred to the House committee on Judiciary for further delibration.
