Niger Govt clears AEDC’s N600m debts

The Niger State Government has cleared the backlog of debts of 600 million naira owed to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC by its agencies.

This was made known by the state Head of Service, Abubakar Salisu during a post EXCO press briefing at the Government House, Minna on Thursday.

He explained that the state was owing AEDC 1.3 billion naira but 500 million naira was paid off by  the previous administration and now the government of Muhammad Umar bago has paid off the remaining 600 hundred million naira.

Salisu further listed the government agencies to include hospitals, water board, and public schools among other government agencies.

He added that in line with Governor Bago’s administration, the state is determined to ensure effective and efficient power supply that would be available for all.

Also speaking at the press briefing, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mua’zu Hamidu Jantabo said the state is determined to reposition the 25 local government finances.

Jantabo stated that the ministry of Local Government has over the years taken an overdraft of 3.9 billion naira to pay salaries, but since the inception of this administration, the overdraft has reduced to two billion, adding that by December there won’t be need for an overdraft to pay local government salaries.

He also assured Nigerlites that the Ministry for Local Government will pay off the backlog of salaries being owed local government workers as the administration of Governor Bago was committed to enhancing development and welfare of citizens of the state.
