Niger State Government has directed all miners operating in the state to profile their documents to avoid any irregularity in their operations.
The Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Garba Sabo Yahaya stated this in Minna on Monday .
The commissioner, who said that the state government was committed to sanitizing the mining profession in the state noted that the decision followed recent reports that some miners were supporting the operations of bandits.
The commissioner also explained that the verification will enable the state government to know their locations.
On the allegations levied against miners in the state, the commissioner said that the state government will liaise with the Ministry of Home Security to investigate the issue.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the state’s Miners Association, Ismaila Mambo said that the association was in full support of the initiative to profile miners.
Mambo maintained that none of its members were involved in banditry as alleged by some people.
He assured the state government that the association would support the exercise by mobilizing its members.
