From Rashidat AbdulRahman, Minna

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu has expressed shock and sadness over the death of former Chief Press Secretary to former Niger Governor, Babangida Aliyu and one time Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Malam Danladi Ndayabo.

Malam Ndayabo died on Monday as a result of injuries he sustained during a ghastly motor accident along Minna-Suleja road.

In his condolence message, Comr. Nmodu said he was yet to come to terms with the reality of Malam Ndayabo’s demise, a senior colleague in the Leadership Newspaper. He said his death was devastating and unfortunate.

He described Ndayabo as a fine writer, journalist per excellence, astute administrator, promoter of peace and unity, who carved a niche for himself in the art of journalism both at national and international levels.

The NUJ chairman said, during Ndayabo’s tenure as Chief Press Secretary to the governor and Commissioner for Information, journalists in the state and invariably media industry got their fair share of benevolence from authorities concerned, hence the excellent working relationship between practitioners and owners of media organisations.

He explained that, the deceased was a fountain of knowledge and mentor, who tutored many to become professionals both in print and electronic media, saying that, though the demise of Ndayabo was very painful, NUJ was consoled by the fact that, he left an indelible footprint in journalism profession.

Comr. Nmodu noted that, the appointment of Ndayabo as Executive Secretary, Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors was a clear demonstration of his capability and administrative knowledge to execute any task assigned to him, apart from his chosen career of journalism.

He stressed that, the deceased would be greatly missed for his simplicity, honesty, hardwork, and ability to face daunting challenges, so long he would achieve the needed result at the end.

Comr Nmodu said the state council of NUJ would continue to remember and cherish the uncommon contributions of Ndayabo to the growth and development of journalism as that was the only way to immortalize him and also to serve as a reference point for the present and future journalists in Niger State.

He prayed Allah to forgive the deceased his shortcomings, grant him aljanatu firdaus and the family, staff and management of Leadership Newspaper, as well as people of Gbako Local Government, the strength to bear his irreparable loss.
