The Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammad Sarkin Daji, has tasked local government councillors to cultivate the spirit of team work so as to move the state forward.
The speaker stated this during the annual conference of Councillors Forum on Tuesday held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Center, Minna, with the theme: “The need for synergy between state and local government to foster economic development.”
Hon. Sarkin Daji commended the efforts of the leadership of the Niger State Councillors Forum for their foresight in organizing the conference for the first time in the state, adding that this will assist them in improving their legislative knowledge and understanding of parliamentary procedures.
He appealed for synergy between the councillors and their chairmen for effective economic development of their respective local government councils in order to better the lot of people at the grassroots.
“For economic development to be actualized between state and local government, there must be effective synergy and collaboration between the two tiers of government,” Hon.Sarkin Daji said.
Speaking earlier, Hon. Bello Alhaji Bako representing Rijau Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, assured the Councillors’ Forum of the 10th Assembly’s support, particularly the House Committee to enable them actualize their mandate.
Also, the chairman of the Councillors’ Forum, Hon Kabiru Ibrahim in his remarks decried lack of synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government, noting that the councillors are really left behind.
“We need orientation and retreat on what to do and not to do. Please advise the relevant authorities to do the needful”.
He appreciated the honourable members for honouring the invitation and being part of the event.
