Organised with the theme, “Role of the media in mainstreaming climate change policies”, the Governor, speaking through his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba said his administration has been informing the public about preventive measures on the sad effects of climate change to save lives and reduce damage to properties.
The Governor therefore, appealed to the media to concentrate more on reporting climate change as it directly affects human lives.
“The state government is willing to collaborate with the media to drive this advocacy as well, work out strategies to put climate change issues on the front burner”
He charged the media to adequately inform, educate and enlighten the society on the implications of climate change.
Speaking in separate remarks, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hon .Yakubu Kolo and Commissioner for Information, Hon. Binta Mamman both advised journalists to take reports on the effect of climate change as key responsibility.
Earlier, the Chairman House of Representatives Press Corps, Ms Grace Ike said a reporter’s efforts in shaping the society would remain elusive if he does not touch on humanity.
She called on journalists especially parliamentary reporters to communicate these policies effectively to the public.
“By so doing the government and the people can be on the same page on various climate change policies of the government.”
