The Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi, Friday held a combined graduation ceremony of 43 Naval Police Officer Basic Course 10/20 and able Regulating Course 11/12.

In his welcome address, the Commandant, Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi, USA Chugali, said the graduands who had  spent 16 weeks undergoing training in Criminology, Naval Law, Provost and Crime, Security and Intelligence, Case File Compilation, Internal Security amongst others have all be found worthy in character and learning to occupy positions worthy of their ranks.

“Today, we are gathered here to witness the combined graduation ceremony of the Naval Police officer Basic course 10/20 Able Regulating Qualifying Course 11/20.The courses which started about 16 weeks ago are being concluded today. Since the school relocation in Makurdi, it has trained 1223 personnel comprising 164 officers and 1059 ratings, the graduating students today inclusive.

“While the course lasted, efforts were made to imbibe in the students the best global practices in provost duties despite numerous challenges. Various methodologies were used to train the students and these include classroom lectures, practical presentations and study visits amongst others.

“Some of the subjects taught during these course included criminology, Naval law, Provost and Crime, Security and Intelligence, Case File Compilation, Internal Security amongst others,” he said.

The commandant, who said the school recently reviewed its curriculum with the inclusion of courses intended to broaden the knowledge of the Officers and Ratings to prepare them to face contemporary and emerging security challenges bedeviling the nation, thanked the Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom, for providing a piece of land as a permanent site for the school.

“I am delighted to say that concrete efforts have been made by the current administration of His Excellency Dr Samuel Ortom to resolve this issue of space by allocating a parcel of land to the school at Abinsi along Gboko road and certificate of occupancy issued. Plans are in top gear to commence development at the new site which will present a good learning environment,” he stated.

Congratulating the graduands, Air CDRE TZ Dauda, Command Air Engineering Officer, Headquarters Tactical Air Command, Makurdi tasked them to imbibe discipline, courage and professionalism  mas they are supposed to be an epitome of knowledge and discipline.

“Let me start by congratulating the under Training Officers and Ratings that are graduating today for the efforts they have put in the last 5 months which is being crowned today. Bear in mind that a lot is expected from you in terms of courage, discipline and the professionalism in your duties.

“The Nigerian Navy is looking up to you to apply what you have learnt to improve your performance at your respective duty post in the service. The man who enforces the law is expected to know the law and uphold the law,” he said.

Highlight of the celebration was the presentation of certificate to all graduands and the  award of merit to the three best graduating Naval Police Officer Basic Course 10/20 and the best graduating Able Regulators Qualifying Course 11/20.
