The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has awarded contract for the full renovation of General Hospital, North-Bank, Makurdi.
Executive Secretary of NSC, Barr Emmanuel Jime disclosed this at a recent one-day seminar organized by the council at Benue Hotels, Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
He said: “We also have the corporate social responsibility which enables us to intervene in some social outlets, therefore, I have identified one area – the General Hospital, North Bank, Makurdi, where we shall begin to stretch out the Nigerian Shippers Council hand of delivering the social responsibility.
“I have identified General Hospital North Bank as the one that is challenged both in terms of infrastructure and indeed capacity to dispense medications.
“Contract has been awarded for the real development of the hospital and that in the remaining three years its presence will be felt.”
According to Barr Jime, the remaining three years of his stewardship will see to the full realization of his commitment to the people and the hospital.
The ES also made some presentations to the hospital saying, “this is just a tip of the iceberg and more will be coming.”
“We are here today to make a token. Most people know the Nigerian Shippers Council as an economic regulator but there is more to that. We are actually in the business to make sure that we are contributing and making our impact felt in the area of rendering social services to our communities.”
He expressed disgust at the state of services and the condition of the hospital with the promise that the NSC will come back to impact heavily on the hospital.
Responding, the Medical Director-in-Charge of the Hospital, Dr Joseph Jiwok appreciated Jime for the kind gesture and assured that the hospital will put the items to good use.
He, however, said “we also look forward to other good things that will be coming our way.”
