Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed worry over the rate of insecurity in North Central geo-political zone and called on government and security agents to take drastic steps that would halt the trend.
Vice President of NUJ, Zone D, Comrade Chris Atsaka in a statement, berated the unending threat to lives with the latest abduction of the Benue State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon Matthew Abo by gunmen in his home town, Ukum Local Government Area, last Sunday.
Comrade Atsaka recalled with regret the spate of abductions, kidnappings, banditry and other forms of criminal activities, urging government and security agents to redouble efforts at halting the trend.
He decried activities of bandits in Niger State as well as the continued herdsmen /farmers crisis in Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa States which, according to him, is stunting economic growth in the Zone.
The Vice President sympathised with the people and government of the affected Zone, calling for decisive action to restoring normalcy in the area.
