The Och’Idoma, Agabaidu Elias Obekpa, has assured the Board members of Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) of his support in carrying out their duties.

Agabaidu Obekpa gave the assurance recently at his place in Otukpo, when the Governing Council members of the commission, led by the Chairman, Barr
Terfa Ityav paid him a courtesy visit.

The royal father congratulated the members on their appointments, urging them to carry out their functions diligently even as he asked them not to hesitate to come to him, whenever they feel his assistance is needed.

He further reassured them of the cooperation of his subjects to HYPPADEC and thanked the Federal Government for its wisdom in the establishment of the agency while noting its impacts in tackling ecological problems.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the governing council, Ityav said they were at Och’Idoma’s palace to seek royal blessing and cooperation. He stated that the agency came into existence with a mandate to tackle ecological challenges caused  by the overflow of dams from hydroelectric power areas,  adding that Benue is among the affected states.

Ityav maintained that HYPPADEC’s responsibilities also involves implementation of projects and programmes that will develop and address the challenges faced by communities affected by the overflow of hydroelectric power dams.

While soliciting the support of the Och’Idoma and his council members, Ityav pointed out that the Idoma area is part of Benue that has suffered flooding in recent time, adding that the agency will soon be on ground to address such and other similar problems.
