Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has assured the new Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Benue State Command, Philip Okoh of the support of the government and people of the state.
The governor who appreciated security agencies for the relative peace in the state, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for renewing the shoot at sight order.
He said the state cannot afford to take things for granted as he is always ready to ensure that the people go about their normal lawful routine without molestation.
“The Agro Rangers unit of the Corps has really contributed to the relative peace in the state.
“You will not find me or any of my aids compromise your work in the state. Your organisation has its rules of engagement and I will always support you,” he maintained.
The governor who gave the commendation when he received the new Commandant, NSCDC, Benue State also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for renewing his order to security agencies in the country to shoot at sight, any one seen with AK-47 riffle and calling the leaders together to deliberate on the way forward.
“I am optimistic that he will execute decisions taken at the meeting,” he stated.
Governor Ortom who equally commended the people of the state for rising in one voice against insecurity in the state said: “Time has come for us to unite together irrespective of party affiliations to fight the common enemy which is insecurity”.
According to him, “the war on corruption should be holistic across party lines without sacred cows. We want to see equity and justice in the country.”
The commandant who described the governor as a shinning light and a voice to the voiceless appreciated the governor for his support to the NSCDC which has made their operations smooth. He assured him of his unflinching support.
He informed the governor of his desire to reposition the operations of the Corps in the state, in order to further enhance the maintenance of peace.
Okoh appealed to the governor to support the command in the area of training and retraining, especially in the area of proper handling of arms to boost the alertness of the officers, payment of arrears of the Agro Rangers unit, provision of ambulance among others.
