Governor Samuel Ortom has admonished the accreditation team from National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria to carryout the accreditation exercise without fear or favour, in order to enable government improve on its facilities.
He gave the admonition Monday at the Benue Peoples House, when a team lead by Prof. John Chukwuka from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit.
Governor Ortom, who was represented by his deputy, Engr Benson Abounu, welcomed the team to the state and urged them to carryout the accreditation exercise as required.
“Do what is required of you to do, it is important for government to know exactly what we need, in order to give the department what they need,” he stressed.
The governor assured the team of the state government’s support which will enable them carryout their assignment in the state. He stated that the team should not hesitate to let the state know whatever flaws they find.
In his opening remark, Prof. John Chukwuka revealed that their mission to the state was to assess the facilities at the Pediatric Department, at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital. He stated that the team will communicate their findings after the two-day exercise to the college.
Speaking with newsmen, the Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, Prof. Terrumun Swende revealed that the hospital is ready for the accreditation of the pediatrics department, stating that the department has the regular facilities needed to give primary healthcare, secondary as well as tertiary care.
He also states that they have seasoned consultants with vast knowledge and experience, noting that due to the growing population, the department will need to increase staff strength.
