Agila Community in Ado Local Government of Benue State has appreciated the state government led by Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Alia for its efforts in restoring peace between the community and Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government of Ebonyi State.
Speaking on behalf of the community last Thursday in Otukpo, Benue State, the President General, Agila Development Association, Chief Peter Otokpa, stated that without the input of the Benue State Government restoration of peace between the two communities wouldn’t have been possible.
“We thank God for making the restoration of peace between Agila and Ngbo a reality. The government of Benue State must be given a special place in this appreciation. In all our meetings both in Benue and Ebonyi, the state government did the needful. All memos sent to the Chairman of Benue State Boundary Commission and Deputy Governor, Barr Sam Ode, were always acknowledged and assistance given without delay.
“I tell you, on the 18th of November, 2023 peace was brokered. Members of Ngbo and Agila Communities exchanged visit and entertained one another, a feat not achievable for countless decades.
As I talk to your now all economic, cultural and social ties have been restored between the two warring communities and we pray anyone that would truncate this new feat should never be born.
“We also acknowledge the roles of Ebonyi State Government in the peace process, especially, the efforts of the Member representing Ebonyi -Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu.
“We pray that the current harmonious relationship between the previously warring communities become a permanent feature even as we appeal to the Federal Government to demarcate disputed boundary for a permanent solution. Otokpa held.
Also speaking, a youth leader from Agila, Daniel Otse, said God was doing a new thing in the lives of his people and their Ngbo neighbours, stressing that the Ngbo and their people have been relating well since the 18th of November, 2023.
He expressed happiness that the war which hindered all progress in his community was over at last and charged the people to continue to tow the path of peace.
It would be recalled that on 18th of November, 2023, peace was brokered between the Ngbo in Ebony State and the Agila in Benue State after over 101 years of hostilities over boundary dispute.
