From Teryima Ajijah, Jos
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development in Plateau State, Brain Daddi has said the ongoing remodeling of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) state secretariat will soon be completed.
“In no distant time, the contractor will be through with the project, the time frame for completion won’t be more than one month from now,” the commissioner stated.
Daddi gave the assurances at the NUJ Press Centre, Jos, shortly after he underwent inspection of the project on Monday.
He revealed that the contractor has been mobilized to complete the project as expected and he is on site.
“Plateau State government is desirous in completing this project. The last time I was here, I told your colleagues that Governor Simon Lalong places priority on this particular project,” he added.
Also speaking with journalists, the site engineer in charge of the remodeling of the NUJ building, Engr Yerima Balami, said they will try to meet up with the time frame as stated by the commissioner.
However, he said the project might not be completed as expected due to variation in the economy. “We have been mobilized to site just as the commissioner stated, but lots of things are involved, the quotation we gave for completion of this project is about one year ago, the little resources they have given us we will try and do our best, if there is need for variation, we shall still meet them,” Engr Balami explained.
He also said completion of the project and handing over for use will be determined by the weather, due to current ongoing raining season.
According to him, rains could prolong the work further than one month, but it will be done according to specifications, he assured.
It will be recalled that, the ongoing remodeling of the NUJ Plateau Council secretariat was to be completed within the period of eight (8) months, but has prolonged for about two and a half years now.
