The Benue State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a child trafficking syndicate in Naka, Gwer West Local Government Area.

The suspected syndicate were arrested following the report of a missing child at the Naka Police Divisional headquarter on the 26th August, 2023 and the police responded immediately by deploying a team of officers to commence investigation.

The Voice gathered that, during police investigation, one Sylvester Tior was last seen with strangers in the neighborhood around the children play ground and was subsequently arrested for questioning.

It was during interrogation that Sylvester Tior confessed to have met the two women while on transit from Onitsha to Benue State and assisted them to secure affordable hotel accommodation for them to spend the night but they left the area without his knowledge.

Further investigations led the team to Onitsha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State from where the two suspects, Constance Nkechinyere Nnamdi and Chinyere Okafor were arrested. They later led the team to Eke-Nkpor in Anambra State where the child, Atti Ngohide Winifred, age 4, was eventually recovered.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State police command, SP Catherine Anene stated that the police are intensifying efforts to arrest the other fleeing members of the syndicate.
