Police arrest suspected Kuje prison escapee in Makurdi

The Benue State Police Command has arrested a fugitive, Ebube Igwe Jude, suspected to have escaped from Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, in Wurukum area of Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

A statement by the Benue Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, on Thursday, stated that the suspects was an inmate awaiting trial for culpable homicide involving his girlfriend.

The statement read in part: “On 19/7/2022 at about 3pm, information was received about one Ebube Igwe Jude; a fugitive who had arrived Makurdi as a result of Kuje jail break. Detectives deployed to investigate the case arrested him at George Akume Way, Wurukum, Makurdi.

“During investigation, he confessed to have escaped from Kuje correctional center during the jailbreak. He stated further that he is an awaiting trial inmate, standing trial in a case of Culpable Homicide involving his girlfriend.”

The statement concluded that the command has begun processes to hand over the escapee to the Nigeria Correctional Service for necessary actions.
