The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria police have dismissed rumours making rounds in Jos, the Plateau State capital, that some devices suspected to be explosives have been planted around Terminus Market as false.
DSP Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Police Command debunked the rumours in a press text issued in Jos Thursday, and made available to journalists in the state.
It however, advised citizens to be more vigilant and proactive in reporting any suspicious movement of unknown persons around their vicinities.
The statement read: “Sequel to the news being circulated in the social media space, alleging an impending bomb threat (IED) around Terminus area of Jos metropolis, the Plateau State Police Command has swiftly responded to the situation by deploying the command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) unit and other tactical teams of the command to put the situation under control.
“The command hereby assures the members of the public of their safety.
“In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka psc (+) wishes to implore the good people of Plateau State to be vigilant and report any suspicious person or movements in their areas to the nearest Police station or other relevant security agencies for quick and prompt response.
“The Commissioner of Police further implore the members of the public to go about their lawful businesses as EOD experts and intelligence mechanism have been put in place to contain any form of emerging security threat.”
