A suspect (name withheld) has been arrested in Makurdi by the Police in connection with the murder of Mrs Eunice Aghanya, wife of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), and former Commissioner of Police in Benue and Kogi States, Ebezimako Aghanya.
The Voice gathered from a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, on Sunday that the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Benue, Audu Madaki, had ordered a full scale investigation by the command’s Criminal Investigation Department.
The CP was quoted in the statement as saying that serious efforts would be made to apprehend the culprits.
He said police received information on Saturday that late Eunice who resided on Austin Iwar Street, off David Mark Bye-pass, Makurdi, could not be seen by her co-chefs who had planned to pay a courtesy call on a royal father in Makurdi.
“Police detectives who received this report swiftly moved to her house where she resides alone behind her bakery.
“Her car was seen parked in front of her gate and her fence broken into but her doors were locked.
“The team noticed blood stains on the window of the deceased and curiously broke into the house where they found the lifeless body lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the head,” he stated.
The CP said her body had been deposited at Bishop Murray Hospital Morgue.
Mrs Aghanya before her death was the owner of Euniland Bread bakery.
